So what happened to the 200 SE ?

Ever notice that Datson, er Nissan.... always uses two letters from the word "sex" to designate the different models?????

You have the "SE" and the "EX" and the "SX"

And you know that wing thinge slows you down and attracts CHP.... like flies to a pile. Wink

How'd you know I had a Nissan (or two)? Good idea with the sticker/badges to make a 240SEX. Laughing

Not my car. My current car lacks AWD or a wing, and has carbs. Smile

By Le Car, you mean Renault 5 Turbo?

Taco.... you had your Nissan for sale, I almost called you up to buy it for my daughter who likes to drive fast........ but I took a second think, and she now has a regular Nissan Sentra...

Renault 5 Turbo...... one bad ass machine 4-sure. I wish I had one of those babys...

No I was thinking of a real Le Car..... 1800 cc, regular 2 wd...... The little throw away car.

I was at Button Willow once doing some testing. The SCCA was holding some sort of "STOCK" race. They were letting cars RACE each other...... anyway, lots of BMW boys were with there tents, trailers, factory support was on hand also. One privater with his regular "Le Car" (I went and looked at it, it was "STOCK") could beat every one of those BEEMERS. The Le Car driver was really good. (I think he was a SCCA champion in like "D" production.)

Taco as you know, in racing as well as climbing, "LIGHT IS RIGHT"

It's good to know other climbers enjoy fast cars and racing, I just love hanging on to life with my hands. If you know what I mean. Wink

You might like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paClRcT39HY

It's me on the crest, going to the rocks...... I wish. Wink

I'LL edit and add one more good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-DGMrLGnLg

thx all Wink

VERY surprised you're into cars. That is, I am very surprised anyone else here is into motorsports, as most outdoorsy folks I know are anti-car for whatever reason.

I know a guy who beats folks with a Festiva. Laughing

Here's the 240 I was selling. Well, the first 240 I was selling. This video shows the last driving it ever did on the stock motor, which blew at the end (not apparent in video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk5U97TeXZs
Gets better towards the end. Light snow on the road that day, and medium rain at the beginning, tapering off the further down the road I went. 50% tires (super cheap econo-street tires), old dampers, stock engine. Always looks so slow on video.

My new setup will be about 1900lbs... if $$$ wasn't so rough lately. Needs a buncha suspension and engine bits. Got rid of the RX7.

Vacuum tubes galore! Gotta rebuild, cam it, and put a set of Weber sidedrafts on that baby.

Cool video..... Love the pass on the bike....

Thats a 510 your doing? Right?

Lots of climbers love to drive really fast, Warren Harding raced cars for a while.

Kris loves Porsches and is pretty fun to ride with, because if he spins, you get to take over..... Wink

Shortimer..... has about 13 points on his drivers license ... he is good in a curve, and is one of the few drivers I know who is really fast and smooth.

I can ride with these guys and relax while they are at the wheel.

Late. Wink

Taco........ so it's a 1979 Corolla?

Can you dodge the smog deal with that?

Fastest Jap shit box ever was the Mazda RX2...........

The first time I ever ran into one of those was right after I moved to California, 1973, I had a 69 AMX with a 390 plus headers, Cam, Holly, Distributor, Gears etc.... The Van Nuys scene was still going on.... Wink anyway, line up next to one of those, and BAM, BAM, BAM I look over after hitting 3rd and he is still there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

anyway in 1981 I got a gig working for an IMSA team, they had a RX2..... so did the rest of the field because that little car is wicked fast and light.

So fast, that IMSA banned the RX2 from from the class.... That is the only time I have ever seen a car banned from a class, so they could save the class. Cool

So you ever do track days?

No cops, no oncoming traffic, lots of run off room, and a waiting ambulance. You can really start to get crazy. Wink

Nah, a few years off for the smog thing, unfortunately. A Datsun 510 would be dandy, but the prices are insanely inflated due to their being trendy at the moment. I paid $500 for my Corolla, and a 510 in WORSE condition in every way typically goes for $4,000 bucks.

Rotaries are amazing. Banned in Le Mans, as well. If I had to build a pure race car, it would be an FD chassis with a built 13B. 3 moving parts, for crying out loud. It can sit at redline forever without making little pieces of metal in the engine. Smile

No track days yet, no money as a student. Can't afford gas right now, even. Onve all is well, I want to do some Solo I and II racing, even though my current car built to the max of it's respective class would still get beaten. I just need to get better. The soul is still in the mountains. There are always roads that don't have cops (I've yet to have a negative experience with them regarding this), have low traffic, etc. I rarely double-lane when I run, so it's not a big issue. I always get the usual negative attitude from people who drive slower than hell, with them flipping me off. I don't see them picking up trash and rocks outta the road, even when you see them spun out later on down the road for not knowing their vehicle and limits.

When I can, I'm going to basically build this car up to be a trailhead taxi of sorts. Relatively-mild engine, stock pistons, con rods, etc, but a nice mid range cam and some side draft 45's. Coilovers up front with swift springs and KYB's in the rear, a Watt's link or nice fancy Panhard bar (not sure which yet), RCA's, and new bushings. Welding up a buncha stuff. Keeping the interior for the most part. Somewhat softer suspension setup overall to deal with less-than-ideal paved roads and summer tires. Lotsa little bits other than those. Can't wait to see how carbs do at 10,000ft in below zero weather. Laughing

I'd stab a midget baby for an old RX coupe!!!!!! Oh God, nice bridged NA 12A or 13B carb'ed... sounds like sex.

I never got to push too hard with my RX7. Dampers were shot, and it would've really benefitted from stiff springs, 8k f&r, and some strut bars and whatnot. Got a few vids of it regardless. Love the sound of a rotary, and the fact that it shot huge flames at night and scared the piss out of other people. Couldn't even heel toe for crap with this car, as it had an old steering wheel (too large), and the pedals weren't aligned right. Regardless...

And my artsy fartsy video I made when I had a few glasses of Russian Standard...

Here's a vid of a dude Targa'ing his RX3, PP'ed rotary sounds soooooooo f*&$!#$ing good! That idle!!!!

Taco.......

Back in the day, Mulholand Dr. was the "race track". Hard to believe it now. You could hang around Van Nuys and watch chicks and cars at the various eating spots. But after like 12 pm the action was up at the "grand stands" up by Laurel Canyon. Lots of very serious cars, some even got towed on trailers. My friend had a 1969 911RSR, the thing idled at 4,000 rpm and would overheat if you drove it in regular traffic. The 2, three barrel carbs made so much noise you needed ear plugs.

but

The all time champion, was a dude who had a "Super 7" with a 13b in it.....

But no street racing anymore, I hear that if they catch ya racin, they crush your car Shocked Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

My buddy lives up on Mullholland. No fun left there!

There's a local turn that does the government's job of crushing cars for them.

That turn is frightening when you're suddenly upside down, and still going forward. (Not my car in the pic...)

Don't worry about the whole let's-ban-fun thing. Kids in the future won't do anything fun or dangerous. No risks will be taken. Shooting and racing video games will be a thing of the past, replaced with hugging video games (which will be banned, as physical contact is a no-no). Completely safe!
