I think it may be this guy. http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=7&Number=609605&Searchpage=1&Main=46238&Words=+Fuggedaboudit&topic=0&Search=true#Post609605

They are still missing. Weather is nasty up there right now. One guy is injured, in a snow cave and the other two are lost.

a bit more info here.... http://www.oregonlive.com/newslogs/oregonian/index.ssf?/mtlogs/olive_oregonian_news/archives/2006_12.html#214163

Best of luck to all of them - Not a fun day to be stuck up on Hood, much less high on the north side, whether you're buried in a snow cave or trying to navigate out on an unfamiliar mountain.

interesting quote from that post on cc.com - all too true i guess... Confused

Quote:
Also will be trying out a half sleeping bag/DAS parka bivy system, will let you all know exactly how much that sucks if I have to use it-yes I know, "if you bring bivy gear you will bivy

Here's hoping they all make it out unharmed - they've got skilled and dedicated rescue teams in PMR and the Crag Rats working hard to bring them down...good luck to them as well...

Thoughts and prayers to everyone involved.

"Authorities have identified the trio of stranded climbers as Kelly James, 48, of Dallas, Brian Hall, 37, of Dallas, and Jerry “Nikko” Cooke, 36, of Brooklyn, N.Y.

James was injured in the descent; Hall and Cooke left him behind in a snowcave while they descended for help. "

Geez.... being lost on Hood in December with 70mph winds in a white out does not sound like much fun. Hope they're ok and that the searchers all stay safe. Winter weather sure can reduce your margin for error quickly.

yes that is him Sad This is a quote from his liberty ridge summit log. "Met a strong pair of climbers from Texas, Brian and Kelly, you two are gentlemen."

These two guys are his partners for this trip. Kelly is the one in the snow cave.

They have called off the search till another weather window opens up. Dangerous high winds and white out above 7000' right now.

sigh* I hope they can hang on out there. the weather is not supposed to get better for days. Sad

Posted on CC.com by <a href="http://www.summitpost.org/user_page.php?user_id=2392">cluck</a>

Just got down off the mountain and unfortunately all 3 are still missing. Conditions were pretty rough up there today. We started up the south side but were only able to get to 9000 feet. There was zero vis and it was snowing buckets and very windy. We were very concerned about avalanche conditions. From what I understand, the teams on the north side encountered similar conditions. The sheriff called us back around noon because of the storm that was coming (with predicted 90 mph winds at the 7000 foot level). The storm hit around 1:00 and all hell broke loose as we were descending in total whiteout conditions. Fortunately, all the searchers are down safe and sound. Unfortunately, no teams were able to make it to the summit today so James must spend another night alone up there. I sure hope he's able to hang in there.

DonV - I heard the information about the climbers being seen in the TJ A-frame. I assume you called the ranger station - thanks very much. That was definitely the right thing to do. The info on their route will really help us out when we can get teams up there. "Somewhere below the summit on the north side" is a very difficult place to search so any info to help us narrow it down is helpful.

The cell phone companies are working some magic to try and pin-point cell signals. There's some speculation that they might be able to get a bead on the 2 that went for help.

As far as folks who want to help out, I'm not sure if there's any way you can get formally involved in the search. In today's litigious society, I suspect the sheriff would be wary of putting "civilians" to work. But, if you do happen to be up there back-country skiing (in Considerable to High avalanche danger) be sure to keep an eye out and have a cell phone handy.

Here's to hoping these guys can make it through another night...

Update from the Local NY News wrote:
CBS/AP) COOPER SPUR, Ore. Rescue teams will resume their search today tracking through a massive snow storm hoping to find three men missing on Mount Hood in Oregon.

One of the climbers is from Brooklyn. The other two are from Texas. One rescuer says the three were trying a "light and fast" climb when they set out last Wednesday. The strategy can help climbers lessen their risk by reducing the time they spend on the mountain, but if something goes wrong, they don't have a lot of gear to fall back on.

The climbers are 36-year-old Jerry Cooke of Brooklyn, 48-year-old Kelly James and 37-year-old Brian Hall, both of Dallas. They are described as experienced climbers.

Rescue teams turned back short of the 11,239-foot summit yesterday. They came off the mountain with descriptions of high winds, heavy snow, ice, the threat of avalanches and so little visibility they couldn't see their feet at times.

Cooke and fellow hiker Brian Hall went to get help for their injured pal, Kelly James. Officials say James, who lives in Dallas, called his wife on his cell phone to tell her he was in a snow cave waiting for help. That call gave searchers an idea of his location. However, the missing climbers had not been heard from since Sunday.

The National Weather Service forecast 6 to 12 inches of snow overnight into this morning.
