Eiger film released in the States this wk

by fossana » Fri Jan 29, 2010 7:09 am

Just saw the 2008 German film, North Face, a historical film about a 1936 attempt on the Eiger, that's being released tomorrow in the States. Well done with great climbing footage. Review here.

Yep, I've been anticipating its coming. Next week here in Portland.
Thanks for that review. Good stuff.
How did you see it so soon?

Can't wait to see it. Good (realistic) climbing films are certainly rare.

talking about Eiger films, can you rent the John Harlin Jr film yet... I think its called "The Alps" or something non-descriptive like that. If its anything like the book, it should be really good.

That's a weird trailer. Freaky music, and apparently the movie wasn't translated yet.

I bought the DVD a few months ago, so I think you can probably rent it.

It's been out on the indie circuit for 2 years.

There are no subtitles for the most part of the trailer. And the music is still weird. Also I've already seen the movie.

Yes, it's available on DVD. It's even on Netflix. It's pretty but it's aimed at a general audience so there's less pure climbing than I would have liked. Still really pretty though...

It's on Netflix but not available yet. Doesn't say when it will available either, according to their website.

waiting for the end

by gorida » Thu Feb 04, 2010 1:37 pm

I didn't like it at all. I knew that historical facts had to be a little bit twisted for show's sake, but this went too far. I was all the time waiting for the end.
PS: Joe Simpson has my deepest respect, but I was even disappointed with his documentary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmjJBu0xiwc . Maybe it is just me.

In the film the Swiss, Germans & Austrians all have different accents, it would be pretty dumb to dub that...
