Are those pages still around someplace and could be adopted by others with the original content intact?

According to SP policy, your content is your content, which means that you can delete it whenever you wish.

Why the strange policy? What is the benefit?

The policy makes it so that users can own the information that they post opposed to wiki's which state that all posts are community policy. Think of it like Capitalism.

A while back McDonald's was deleted, but this member brought it back.

Waucoba Mountain has gone missing from the Inyo-White Mountain page. Any chance we know to whom the page belonged, and if anyone has plans to redevelop one? I am considering that peak for summer, and some useful info is always appreciated. A page can be developed if none is ready by my return, but who wouldn't want one sooner.
