Alps snowpack.

Postby CastillejaMiniata » Tue Apr 10, 2012 7:12 pm

Can any folks who live in the Alps or have been to the region lately give me an idea of how heavy the snowpack is this year? For instance, it is seriously below normal in the southern Rockies right now, near average in the north, and above average in the Pacific Northwest. I'm trying to get an idea of when the "climbing season" will be starting in earnest this year.

I've heard it's a bit thin, but I think it has been snowing in the last week.

Thanks. I guess it's too early to tell what'll happen yet. Forecast for Chamonix has been looking grim, but as I understand, it can be sunny up on the peaks while raining below, similar to the Cascades.

Dumping snow on the Italian side right now. Who knows if it will hang around.
