Anyone near Mammoth with a metal detector?

by Luciano136 » Sun Jan 22, 2012 4:08 am

Wifey managed to lose our car keys in the snow today. I know the approximate area where they are but even after 3 hours, I still couldn't find them. If anyone has a metal detector I could borrow or even buy, that would be great! Only have Sunday though (working Monday). Long shot but figured I would try. A new set of keys isn't exactly cheap and I'll have to come back up here to pick up the car. If anyone could help, feel free to shoot me a PM. It would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!!

Thanks Kevin! Really nice of you. Luckily we're up here with a few people, so at least we can make it back.

Contact Bob (the Owner) at Mammoth Lock & Key. He is relatively cheap and can make key/s for any vehicle as he does it daily this time of year. Nice and very professional guy. I deal with him on a regular basis at the MML Airport (work).

If he can't do it, I know that Bruce Lella (the owner and personal close friend) at Bishop Locksmith can... 760-873-7545

Thanks Chief! We called a few yesterday but they couldn't do it because it's a Mercedes. Worth another shot though.

I believe that my good buddy Bruce at Bishop Locksmith, can help you. If I recollect correctly, he made one or two for a Mercedes last year.

Good luck.

If it is a modern mercedes w/ electronic key, forget the locksmiths and take your registration to a dealer.
Old metal keys can be copied, but that is about the extent of what a locksmith can accomplish.
(Oh yes, I have owned six mercedes....)

Yeah, we called Chief's friend and he was very knowledgeable but could not get a key either. Apparently the software to program those keys is $2k and an additional $800 each year for the license. Since you'll need a lot of lost keys to make that money back, most locksmiths don't get it.

We're trying to get a valet key from the dealership now, so I can fly up and drive back.
