Anyone on the Breithorn recently?

Postby Luciano136 » Sat Aug 13, 2011 8:04 pm

I'll be there in less than two weeks. I want to make the quick side trip from the cable car. Just wondering how the crevasses are this year? I'll bring a rope but we're only two people, so protection against a fall isn't that great.

Well, on one rope that is :). If that many people do it, I guess it can't be that bad. We'll go during the week though, so maybe it won't be this busy?

You are right Luciano, it isn't that bad for a team of two. Concerning people, Breithorn could be as crowded as in that pic. I've seen more people ascending there in weekend.

I was there last week and didn't encounter anything significant. We roped up in teams of four but I'm sure a team of two won't be a problem!

So, this was a bust unfortunately :(. I was there last Friday (8/26) and everything above 3000m was socked in clouds with high winds. The lift to Klein Matterhorn didn't even operate. Never saw the Matterhorn in two days either. Two days later on Sunday in Zurich, the weather was gorgeous and clear and you could see 4000ers as far as the eye could reach. Pretty frustrating but I knew that risk existed. I'll probably come back at some point and try to do some 4000ers (or anything else exciting) close to Zurich (since I have a free place to stay there).

Thanks for the info provided!
