"Back" Button Does Not Work In Browser.

Postby jdzaharia » Mon Dec 06, 2010 3:24 pm

Recently, the "back" button does not work in my browser on the SP forum. I'm using IE8, and have not experienced the problem on any other website.

If I use the drop-down near the navigation buttons, it shows some extra lines in there:

HTTP 404 Not Found

This is recent within the last week.

I started noticing issues with this about 2 or 3 days ago. More often than not I have to hit the "Back" button twice for it to work. This is the only website where I am experiencing this problem.

I also have to hit the back button twice and the problem just showed up within the past few days.

The only possible explanation that I have for this right now is that perhaps you're going to an anchor link and when you hit the back button it's just the anchor that's being removed and keeping you on the same page.

Can you provide me a link to a page that I could navigate to where the back button won't work? This doesn't seem like something that would be a server-side issue because browsing history, including the previous page, is stored in the browser on the user's end.

Matt- It just happened to me in this thread. Tried to go 'back' to the index page from here. Using Internet Explorer 7.0.6002 something btw.

But I never use the back button, so I don't care nor am I taking a stong position!

Ah, yep, I just tried using the back button in IE and it happened to me as well. My guess is that it is caused by the ad on the top of the page, but I don't know for sure.

Nor do I (use the back button), but I'd prefer that it worked for the people that do use it.

That's a good thing because it probably wouldn't do you much good :)
