California is the Best.

Postby Guyzo » Wed Aug 19, 2009 4:38 pm

I just returned from a few days of climbing at Tuolumne Meadows.

The Weather was perfect. Nippy mornings, no chance of rain, gentle breezes.

Needed gear. T-shirt, shorts and sunscreen.

Short approaches, fabulous stone and no crowds.

And to quote Mike Waugh, “there is nothing in Colorado, this good”

Late. GK

Oh but...

If you actually do some long approaches, you will find even better longer stuff than in TM, up high, in CALIFORNIA than you will in CO!!

Never thought i could be a bit bummed about potentially moving to Colorado, until I moved to California.

Lasted 1.5 years in Boulder before the High Sierra drew me back.

PS - my previous post was NOT in reference to you, Fossana! Posts are submitting hard and fast on this one.

Foss, the problem was you lived in the People's Republic of Boulder!

Well, guys, I lived in CA for 23 years, even wrote a book about it, but after 9/11 I decided to try something new.

Can't say I love Colorado, but I can't say I loved CA either. But then I didn't know Dingus or LlamaMan. Image

Guess I better get in my 2 cents worth on this one, having lived 23 yrs in CO and 26 yrs in CA. Without a doubt, the best place to be, is lost somewhere on the road in between.

LOL, that's the only complaint my mom makes (not "where's your rope?").

Boulder is a very unique place, kind of like an ultracompetitive Berkeley. Although it was great having the Flatirons, trails, & tons of trad nearby, the t-storms and the dispersed alpine routes were kind of a drag.
