I've just moved to china for 3 years for work and am looking for climbing partner(s) for 4,000m+ mountaineering adventures in sichuan province and western china.

Keep in touch and re-post around September and/or February when it's either a better season (for Sichuan at least) or a long holiday (Spring festival).

I'm also looking for climbing partners in china. i live in shanghai and have done a few climbs in sichuan and yunnan already. i am here for another two years and as a teacher am free during most school breaks (xmas, CNY, easter, etc)

I'm always looking for alpine climbers in china who can take enought time off for a reasonable climb, most people here work too much! As you know, much travel and acclimation time is required. Also looking for training partners in Shanghai. The best place to meet other climbers is at the climbing gym in the large stadium. I'm usually there Tues/Thursdays and Sundays when I'm in town. I'm also looking for people interested in climbing/mountaineering over the National Day holiday. I would rather go to Sichuan but anywhere else (or even around Beijing) it's fine. I have all the gear for rock, plus a couple of ice screws. I'm not into anythig hardcore, alpine up to AD-D and mountains <~ 6000m. Daniel

If anyone in China can help me find work I'm game to come out and climb. Just got done with Ama Dablam and am now in Bangkok trying to figure out what to do next. Finding some form of work is pretty critical though (I'm a network engineer by training but not picky about employment). Would definately like to climb in China.

I'd like to go and climb something in early february, right before going back home to the uk, but I've only ever done 2000-3500m things, and I'm not equipped or able to deal with climbing big piles of ice.

Can anyone really clever out there think of something 3000-4000m, or smaller but very scenic that is not going to be hopelessly inhospitable in winter? I was at meili snow mountain in north western yunnan in august and it was only 8c at night because we were at 3000m, so I'm not optimistic of finding anywhere in winter that's not frozen solid. Maybe there's a part of China with milder winters AND mountains that I don't know of.

me & my two friends are organising a climb cum training to 'banji feng' this winter, most probably end of february 2006. we will be getting "arete alpine instruction centre" (AAIC) to throw in some "advance alpine skills" while acclimatising in between camps. i myself have summited banji in october this year (with AAIC).

the climb is, kind of, to consolidate our alpine skills and try to learn more advance/practical alpine skills.

philaw: at 3000m - 4000m the air temperature is about 20 - 30 degrees lower than sea level depending how dry the air is. So in February any where you can climb mountains in China will be pretty cold -- at least -10C at night at that altitude. Maybe Cang Shan (peaks fom 3500m - 4100m) near Dali of Yunnan is an option because it is in the south, not far from town, has very interesting surroundings and history, and you can take the cable car as plan-B. Dali will be crowded during the chinese new years.
