The season is usually in full swing by June...May is typically the transition month. HOWEVER, this season (2006) was horrible for most of the month of June. Virtually nothing was getting climbed aside from the acclimatization peaks like Urus, Ishinca, Vallunaraju. There was substantial snowfall in the mountains nearly every night, resulting in deep snow and high avalanche danger on many routes. July is a much better bet it seems. But things are really changing in the Cordillera Blanca. Gone are the days of perfect weather for weeks on end which were common-place in the 90's.
Like tom said, june is generally pretty decent. This year there were a bunch of freak snow storms in the area that curtailed a lot of climbing. I showed up July 1 looking to climb Chopicalqui but had to do Pisco instead due to the snow.
