Fall Colors In Washington State 2012

by EastKing » Sat Sep 22, 2012 9:27 pm

After four years of showing the world our awesome colors, WE STILL HAVE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE Washington State has fall color. The colors are starting and the new album is out. Lets show the world what they are missing!!!!

Beautiful larches have been seen in the Washington Pass area (Early Winter, Copper Point, Silver Star). Also the berry bushes in Stevens Pass are in peak!!!

Other ideas besides the prerequisite alpine larch:

-Aspen in Okanogan and Chelan counties
-western larch in the Okanogan highlands
-those deep red vine maples anywhere on the wet side

How about a scavenger hunt as well? I want to see a late November shot somewhere along the upper Skagit or Sauk River with two raggedy salmon flailing around in a riffle in the foreground framed by some behemoth bigleaf maples turning gold and dripping with moss and a little radiation fog hugging the valley with some iconic N. Cascades peaks sporting a good dusting of snow rising up in the distance below a full moon that has yet to set.

Those pictures would be excellent add to the album. I plan on adding the red vine maples soon and the western larch when I head down to White Pass with BearQueen in a couple of weeks. I'd like to see the aspen in Okanogan and Chelan counties soon.

I didn't even think about fungus, but there is an interesting variety that crops up in the fall. Some aren't so colorful but they look pretty cool.

There are some good spots for checking out the aspen around the Methow valley. Also some of the trails between the northeast side of Lake Chelan and the Twisp River valley are prime spots. Reminiscent of the Rockies more than the Cascades really. I would highly recommend one of the trails that starts out from the Twisp River (War Creek, South Pass, etc...) to gain the Sawtooth Ridge.

Matt Lemke and I captured a number of excellent shots of western larches. Check out the new changes to the Fall Foliage album.
