Autumn in MT

by peakhugger » Sat Oct 23, 2010 2:58 am

Anyone getting out and climbing mountains with all this good weather we've had?

It's about to turn cold and wet, and I can't wait until we have a base to ski on...

edit: original title was misleading: "Fall in MT" whoops!

Winter is coming... and our first serious storm is dropping snow in the Bozeman area.
Already ~18 inches of snow in the Bridgers at 7300 ft.
Reports of 32-24 inches of snow at Bridger Bowl near the top of the ridge.

~11 inches and counting at 8100 ft in the Hyalites

Watch out for the early season avalanches! They will be furious with those numbers!

Sunday, I got out to Elephanthead, in the north Absarokas. It was a really fun, short climb, and we were right ahead of the storm, which we could see raveaging the peaks to the south. Then it snowed for a couple days but only about 5 inches here at 6000'.
The weekend before I was up by Outlook above Emerald (Heather) Lake in Hyalite, but the snow was already there.
Perhaps in a few days it will turn off nice again and I can get in a couple more short climbs before dragging out all the winter gear.
