Ski mountaineering yesterday, how about a brushy hike today? The Doctor ordered a quick hike up Fiske Peak while the weather is still mild? In another month this hike will be pure punishment. Today it promises to be VERY nice!
The water volume is up in Cache Creek.
Think you're tough? Walk down this gully, to its bottom, go on, I dare you!!! Its down hill after all...
Mt Glascock, across the canyon from Fiske Peak.
Looking south along the Blur Ridge. Lowrey Peak, 4 miles further on down the Blue Ridge Trail, just touches the top of the pic.
Cache Creek country!
The obligatory spring color shots!
Looking north fron the summit of Fiske:
The coast ranges of California are landslide country, from one end to the other. Some geologists hold that landslide is the prime downhill mover of debris in these normally dry ranges. Once you develop the eyes to see them, the number and regularity of landslides in these mountains can be stunning. For example, the entire upper half of the trail leading to the summit of Fiske crosses an eroded landslide scar (with subsequent new and smaller slides superimposed, much like craters within craters, on the moon).
Another great hike, another great summit, lots of flowers and hiking too! Yowza!
