Any recommendations on something close - within, say 2 hours of the airport? A summit with a Class 2 scramble/Class 3 would be great.
If it hasn't snowed much already, perhaps Mt. Rose would be good. It can get very windy but there is a good trail to the top. TH is 30 minutes from the Spaghetti Bowl (I-80 and 395).
There is Castle Peak (cl. 3 summit block) by Donner Summit, some 40 miles one way via the Interstate. That can be nice all the way to early December if it hasn't been too stormy.
Feel free to look at my Northern Sierra Peaks Guide on my website, there's directions and plenty of peaks to do. The OGUL list is the one you'll want to consult, some people have done nice maps with the peaks locations.
