Up and down from the Main Lodge to the Upper Gondola building 19 times in less than five or so hours three years ago today for the Nationals.

That equates to to almost 82K' of gain and descent combined.

Really? 23h 22min, now mentioned twice, beaten in 5 hours? My best man used to ski and ski patrol at Shasta and ski race at Mammoth, prior to ski patrol at Squaw Valley.

Guess I've been in the wrong gig. I think I did some crazy 10,000 plus gain stuff back in my 20's without keeping track (multiple hikes in a given day). Now I'm old and would be lucky to have a 10,000 foot day still making it back by dinner without getting my a** chewed. I'm happy to just get out there, enjoy the scenery, and push myself.

If only I could sing, or lose 40 pounds; I suspect some us are being teased about what is inspiring.

As far as 14ers, vertical ascents, and establishing new routes, to each his own...my daughter and son are constant reminders to just enjoy the show.

They still employ doormen for the gondola?

According to Bob/Topo

Concur with Bob Burd's trip reports being a good read for those interested in long day hikes with lots of gain. I'll add that the Sierra Challenge would be a good way to get into those kind of hikes for those who don't want to go the way of a lone wolf. If that tradtional gathering has run its course, the plans for those trips remain a good resource.

The man is good for brief witty statements in the forums as well.

Greg Hill did 50,100ft of uphill skiing in 24hrs a few years ago. I think someone has since broken that record. He also did 2 million ft of skinning in a year last year.

The Sierra Challenge is still going, though the peaks are getting pretty obscure. It's still a good way to do long days with company, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to get into that style of hiking without being somewhat of a lone wolf. It's hard to find someone who will travel at exactly your pace for 12+ hours.

My greatest el. gain was in a Boeing 727 out of SFO. 0 to 36,000' in 30 minutes.

Yes, Seano, (some) SP members, and the Sierra Challenge, would be rare finds as potential for shared death marches. I have stayed away, partly due to scheduling conflicts, and partly because my dogs like to come along. I worry that the big one would bite some of the characters found on here.

Sierra Challengers seem like nice folks from what I have read

I know Greg Hill and Jimmy Faust did 50K at the 24hrs of sunlight a while back. I've still been trying to break 20K. Shasta twice in 12 hours was about as much as I've done.

But looks like someone else has broken the record...
-First NA to climb and ski 40 000 ft in 24 hrs and set a World Record
of 50 100 ft in 24 hours.(no longer the record)

Long dead thread, but none similar have become yet active ... any new numbers for this?
Curious to see how my 2016 16x Grouse Grinds stacks up (if it still does) ... ~13500m in <19hr, 160621

I've done 10,000ft in 18 miles in 7hrs, and have done 9,000ft in 32miles in under 9hrs. I'll be running Bighorn 100 in June...That will be 42,000(21 up/21down) in gain and loss and I'm hoping for around 28hrs or less.

My personal best is 13,000 ft. of gain in a car to car push of Black Kaweah and Red Kaweah.
I'm the top troll.
