Horseshoe Meadows Road Open Still?

Postby KathyW » Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:14 pm

Has anyone been up to Horseshoe Meadows recently? If so, is the road open still?

was up at whitney portal yesterday. No snow there. Drove out horseshoe meadow road to lubken road, and it looked like it was open, but I am not possitive(I don't know where they actually close that road at.) From cerro gordo it looked like the snow line was above 10k so you are probably good.

South Lake Rd up to 9800' was open on Sunday Oct 25th. Since not much happened since that weekend, I would guess Horseshoe meadows road is open as well. If anything, the snow line is probably higher than Oct 25th by now and then it was only at about 10.5-11k.

Thanks. The extended forecast looks like it will be mostly dry this week, so I might head up there on Saturday.

Came out Horseshoe Thurs 4pm. All clear. But the winds were picking up and had that cold feel like snow was on the way. Good luck up there.

Thanks for the imput. I'm going to have to wait until Wednesday (Veterans' Day) to head up that way. I'll bet it will be chilly.

Thinking about heading up there this weekend. Has there been any weather come through since Vets Day? Any guess on snow coverage on New/Old Army passes? Thanks.
