Humphries Snow Conditions

by gregpeak » Fri Apr 01, 2011 5:24 pm

Has anybody been on the summit of Humphries recently? I was wondering what the snow conditions are like. Specifically, is it skiable from the summit or near the summit.

I was up there probably a month or so ago, and it was very odd/bad ski conditions. There have been some storms that have rolled through, but it doesn't look promising:

It kind of looked like that last time we went, and the only guy in our group who brought skis had a horrible time. We took Dutchman to Allison Clay...poor coverage (guy with skis booted down the slide areas). The bottom of Hart-Prairie was essentially an ice field. With an expect high of 53° today...I'd say it's snowshoe/crampon weather. You can try digging around on the Kachina Peaks Avalanche Center as well:

Might be better/quicker to ask on that forum. Feel free to take my comments with a grain of salt (as it's been a while since I was up there)...but the links may help you out.
