I cant go boarding/skiing, but would love to get a good snow shoe in. I hiked to Heart Lake last year at this time and it was great, but I want to try something new this year say... within an hour drive of the Mammoth Mtn CA area. Any ideas to kill 5-7 hours? Thanks!
McGee Canyon from Crowley Lake Drive up and back.
Rock Creek Canyon from the SnoPark at East Fork Campground.
Glass Creek Meadow from the Obsidian Dome Trailhead on 395.
Circumnavigation of Mammoth Mountain from Twin Lakes to Horseshoe to Mammoth Pass to Hemlock Ridge to Minaret Summit to the shuttle back to Twin.
San Joaquin Ridge from Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge and Minaret Summit.
+2 "San Joaquin Ridge from Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge and Minaret Summit."- especially if you are on skis-great views of the Minerets and you can bag a couple of peaks along the ridge...Two Teats and Mt. San Joaguin. A fine winter outing.
Thanks Greg. Ended up going to Virginia Lakes above Mono Lake and had a great time. The road was plowed to 9,200 ft or so and the snow was 1-4 ft powder and stable. Beautiful weather and no Starbucks... - Thanks Chief... [/img]
