Ideas

Summitpost needs to get an instant messenger pop up chat option....just cus it would be fun and funny. Sometimes, things are pressing and need immediate and rapid conversation, and forums are like snail mail. :)

Gotta agree with FM! That would blow big time. What's wrong with what we have now ???

Hey, whatever you younger folks decide. The world is yours.

I just didn't want to be looking at other people's dirty laundry.

We really need that! It seems to take forever to insult someone under the current scenario.

Matt, if there is an IM feature, I hope the user will be able to disable it. I personally can't stand IM and always disable it on Gmail and Facebook; I find it intrusive.

The IM feature could replicate the one on facebook-where you can go "offline" if you choose. I just feel like IM feature would allow SP to become a more lively, interactive, less stagnant and slooooow experience. The level of interaction on SP forums reminds me of this:

I agree Daria. I think it would add a lot to SP for many people. I think, in certain scenarios, it would enable people to efficiently make plans and meet potential partners if there is a built-in chat feature on SP. Also, at least for me, it's much easier to get a decent "feel" for another person's personality by chatting with them than by reading posts in the forums or reading private messages.

You may remember a discussion about 1000pks requiring just that before climbing with someone. There were two sides to the issue.

But whattheheck. As long as I can disable chat, the children can do what they like.

Thanks Matt for being so active in improving the site!

There's a good chance that this will happen soon.

That would blow. ALL and EVERY conversation needs to be out in public view so we can see who's sniffin' whose butt. Who's plotting, scheming, conspiring. Who's tattling, etc.....

I don't see the value in doing what dozens of other services already do. and likely way better.

I agree in part with FM. The 'pm" works the same way 'im" works but the "im" would pop up and be quicker. The "pm"
should be sufficient for making plans. In regards to EVERY conversation needs to be out in the public- no it doesn't
but then again the "pm" can be used for that purpose of confidentiality.

I'm not sure I see why having additional features on the site would "blow".

LC using the word "blow" in the post == just an excuse to post that annoying image.

Here's a simple idea:

Could the "mountains" on the "What's New" page list their parent too? If someone posts another Lookout Mountain page, for example, it would be helpful to know whether it's in the Cascades, Sierras, Front Range, or whatever.
