june lake -> mt lyell via rush creek / other suggestions?

by jareds » Tue Apr 05, 2011 7:29 am

hey looking for beta on this route - looking to do this next week, can't find as much info as I'd like on this route/area for this time of year.

is this route popular? i.e. will this be breaking trail the whole way or no?

Any suggestions on this or other spots?

I'm looking to spend 5 or so days up in the mountains:
a)making some turns
b)getting some quiet time

Solid skier, comfortable mountaineering; haven't done much touring in the Sierra other than Castle Peak / Mt Rose near North Tahoe a few times and then Round Top by Kirkwood.

Thanks for any help!

If you could find a way over the Kuna Crest, up north above LeConte Canyon, you could come back via Parker & Koip Peak Passes, and down the Alger Lakes basin, then over Gem "Pass" and back to Rush Creek. Real beautiful back there, and i would bet Parker & Koip Peaks would be nice easy skins up. There may be substantial avy danger in the area, for all I know, I've only been there in summer.
