La Sportiva Baruntse...Anyone used these?

by rush » Thu Jun 17, 2010 5:46 am

Am looking for a new HA mountaineering boot and have been researching the Baruntse. Has anyone used these and have an opinion on them? from what I have read, they run a bit wider than other La Sportivas. I have a EE wide foot with a narrow heel. I have a pair of Nuptse's which are comfortable but a bit tight in the toe box so I'm looking to trade them out. Looking for other recomendations as well. Thanks

I have a pair of those. I had my mind set on the La Sportiva Spantik with the Scarpa Phantom 6000 as a close second. But when trying them on, I noticed that the Spantik was too narrow for my feet (I have wide feet) and the Phantom seemed to always be either too big or too small (yes they did have half sizes). I tried on some plastics, but they were heavy and too rigid. I finally tried on the Baruntse and they fit me perfectly. Not to mention that they gave me some flexibility (as far as that goes with a D-type shoe. I've climbed on Elbrus and on a couple of really cold days in Switzerland. Even went ice-climbing in them (which actually went really well (but I would resole them with thinner soles if I did this more often). I have no regrets buying them at all. These also seem to be more durable than the Spantik. Something that is a nice bonus on such expensive gear.

I am thinking of buying a pair (I have wide feet too). They are on sale at gearx.com (my local gear shop) for $480 (ouch).

I have them and like them. Medium width foot with very narrow heels.
Hard to go wrong. Baruntse is wider in the toe box and narrower in the heel than the Spantik.

The LS Nepal fit me perfect in Euro 48. And I'm a US 12 6E!

I was thinking of getting the Baruntse because they go up to a Euro 50.

I tried Scarpa Inverno in UK13 (US14) and they were way too narrow throughout the whole boot.
