Let the Runoff Begin!

by Princess Buttercup » Wed Jun 15, 2011 2:06 pm

Finished my day in June Lake yesterday, so I decided to hoof up the Rush Creek trail as a workout and see what was happening with Horsetail Falls.

From the road near the power station:

Parker Canyon:

The little creek under the bridge (Silver?):

Starting to see the bloom start around 8K:

Horsetail from the trail:

Overflow from Tatum Falls on the trail:

I was turned around here since Tatum Falls... OK, I just didn't feel like getting soaked. But it was moving across the trail (video)

I saw that Yosemite Valley had a flood watch in effect starting last night.

Post up those waterfalls!

L, great photos as always
I understand that big ol' snowpack mixed with future warm temps & rain has got folks are concerned about potential flooding

Thanks, grahamcracker! There is one falls that I may try to get to around sunrise next week if I have patients down south. I can imagine it's a bit ree-dunculous right now.

Plus, it's an excuse to play with my new camera! :)

Nice shooting in relatively difficult light conditions.

Have a friend who will be fording Evolution Creek in a few weeks... He's agreed to give me all his gear if he doesn't make it.

Yeah, yeah, I know... :D

Still working with learning how to use the camera, the histogram, etc, but it sure is fun! So where has everyone else been? Let's see some water!

South Lake is still drained in anticipation of the runoff (from this past Saturday):

Like this...

And just below Treasure Lakes:

Then last night I hoofed up the Convict Creek trail to the crossing. HOLY CRAP!!

This morning descending from UBSL.... no title required (notice Thor Falls are still 80% frozen!):

Yesterday on the way over to the ER of Russell after tagging Carillon(still lots of snow up there!):

Started the day Tuesday in McGee Creek:

Image

The bridge below the beaver dam isn't "out" so much as "crunched" (but the fixed line was a nice touch):

I was on the hunt for flowers (as well as water) and it's mostly peas and a good beginning to the Mule's Ears:

Image

Image

From there it was off to Mammoth (bucket list item) and then Tioga/Tuolumne:

Hurm... this weekend should be fun... wonder if I can sneak out one more day on the skis...
