Mount Umunhum public access starts Sep 16, 2017

by Jesus Malverde » Tue Apr 04, 2017 5:07 pm

"At long last the wait is over: Closed to the public since 1980, the summit of Mount Umunhum will finally open starting Sept. 16 [2017]"

http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/04/03/m ... ept-16-17/

"The grand opening weekend celebration of the prominent 12-acre mountaintop, located within the 18,000-acre Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve south of Los Gatos, will include events and activities welcoming the public to the peak and inviting them to experience its panoramic vistas, rich cultural history and restored natural environment."

This is a big deal for people in the area. Long anticipated, the opening of Mt Umunhum always seemed like one of those "Holy Grail/Lord of the Rings" mystical kind of event that we always would figure would happen someday, just not for a long long time (haven't lived in the area since 2008), so we never really gave it a serious thought. Gone are the "good ol" trespassing days, but I'm so happy this mountain can now be accessed by the thousands of south Bay residents it inspires. Long live Umunhum.
