Surprised REI gave full refund considering boots had made it through a Shasta beating. Everything else sold locally, yea cheap, only $250 for everything else, but I didn't want to hang on to Made in China gear any longer. Picked up an Alpha Parka, Made in U.S.A.

I have a friend who worked at Arc'Teryx when their clothing was Made in Canada. He saw no small irony in the fact that all the seamstresses who sewed those $500 Gore-Tex jackets were Chinese or Korean.

I remember picking up an Arc-Tyryx from a second hand store for cheap, but simply because it had been made in Canada. Next thing I know the same brand at a high end store being made in China. Moral of the story, Buy American( if it is at all possible in this sport) if you are American. The gear is expensive enough, and you will be doing our economy and yourself good because you'll know where it came from, it's easier to live with yourself. Nothing against China, but isn't it about time that we say "Enough!"

I agree with supporting buy American and or Canadian for that matter. Sadly its very hard to do. I have several Arcteryx items but have stopped buying them as well. I see they pass none of their cost savings along to the consumer. They must be making a bomb with oversees production and charging made in Canada prices.
Just my thoughts.

Yeah, not too sure of American made mountaineering boots or gloves, if it even exist? I use to buy all Mountain Hardwear everything, now that I know, I don't anymore. All my clothing I buy American though, and it of course comes from a military surplus store, but atleat it is American made. Especially with this economy, it's the only good way to go.

Good call! If we don't support this country we are saving a buck, but selling off our childrens future. All the weath our forefathers accumulated is being shipped overseas.

It's worth it, even of it does cost a little more. Now if we can make some nice boots and tents. I think Nemo is American brand though they sold there product out to China. Now why do we do that? Like we don't have enough outdoor enthusiast here in the US?

No, more likely we don't have enough companies who manufacture their gear here. . .

And that's the sad truth. You have to go to these military surplus stores just to stay true to this country and buy American because all the top brands, even Black Diamond, has sold out to the Chinese market. So in a sentence, Don't buy the brand, buy for your country, even if it does take the time to find, it's worth it, because your buying for the future of America and it's children. Made in Mexico isn't as bad as Made in China either, at least it is still somewhat American.
