Mt. Sill via Palisade Glacier and North Couloir

by Mescalito345 » Wed Aug 27, 2014 1:06 am

In July 2012, I hiked up to Glacier Notch from the east, and then took the North Couloir route to Mt. Sill. I used ice axe and crampons for a while on that trip.

Next week, I’ll be hiking up to Glacier Notch from the other side (Palisade Glacier), and then taking the North Couloir route again. I’m planning to bring an ice axe, but could I leave the crampons in the car?

We climbed the same route on 8/7. The couloir is completely dry. To get to Glacier Notch we had to cross some low angle ice at the edge of the glacier. We used crampons on the ascent, but not the descent. We brought ice axes, but didn't find them useful. There was snow on the class 4 section, but it's probably gone by now.

Thanks for the update. It sounds like we can leave any extra gear just above the glacier, before heading to the peak.

Just climbed the route this past weekend. We did not bring ice gear. Anything out there can be avoided.

Is the route from Sam Mack Meadow to Glacier Notch pretty easy to figure out? Above Glacier Notch, I know the route because I took it in 2012.
