Here's a link to a video my Aunt did three years ago to commemorate the 30 year anniversary of the Mt. Saint Helen's eruption in 1980. Today marks the 33rd year since its eruption. I have hear this story many times in person, and its hard to imagine these events happening and what must have been going through the heads of those who were in charge of disseminating information on the eruption.

i find it hard to understand why an "experienced outdoorsman" would pitch a tent at the bottom of a large rock face. named "wind lip". in the middle of spring avalanche conditions. :?

Sad to hear that the greatun is gone. Started to climb in work boots. Some of his old climbs are in the N.Y. Times but no mention of his passing.

Does somebody know who are the western expedition leaders/companies who have hired the sherpas, who have been involved into the incident with Steck-Griffith-Moro. Thank you.
