Help with a serious question.

Okay, I know how this could go straight away but I am going to try and get the "real" answer to this question and the source of the answer (if known).

Here goes - control yourselves:

Why are mountains referred to as being female?

Example: Ships are referred to as being female.

Fire away, but I really would like the historic answer.

Is there any Climber who climbed all peaks above 26000 feet

There are many who climbed all the 8000 meter peaks, but i don't know if any one has ever tried to climb all peaks above 26000 feet.

Getting into technical climbing

I am looking to move from just hiking into the world of climbing sometime "soon". I have been wondering, how do you transition into technical climbing? I just did my first class 3 peak (Buck Mountain in the Tetons) last week and I immediately fell in love with the more challenging terrain. I am not looking to make it into technical climbing this season (I work in Yellowstone), but I would love to maybe slowly ...
