Sandia wildflowers

Last July, I found these flowers on the Tree Spring Trail in the Sandia Mountains. Does anyone have information about what they are?

some texas fun in the sun

my boys and i took a little climbing trip up to the hill country this weekend. this would be their first time to tie into a rope.

eddie was the first one to give it a try. this is him giving it a go on a 5.8 slab climb.

he was having a little trouble with this one. we kinda sandbagged him here. you know, "climbing is fun! and easy!" after about 10 minutes ...

Grand Canyon overnight permits

How easy is it to get walk up backcountry permits this time of year? We will be starting at the South Rim on a mid week day. Doing the Grandview Loop. Any feed back would be nice. If it's impossible then might have to scrap it and head some other place.

Outdoor store on the way West from Vegas

Next week I'll be flying to Las Vegas for a trip in Utah and Arizona. I'm arriving on a saturday evening however, and I still have to get some supplies such as fuel for my stove (because I can't fly with this) and perhaps some backpacking meals. This means I have to find an outdoor store, open on a sunday. So far I've only been able to find a 'REI' in vegas, but this opens ...

Boundary Peak

Via the Queens Mine route how long would anyone expect it to take to summit boundary round trip from the trail head? How comparable is it to Borah Peak in Idaho? I noticed it's .6 miles longer than Borah Peak round trip, but it's 1,000 feet less in elevation gain, so I would think it wouldn't be as difficult of a hike as the initial 2 miles on Borah. Also Borah has a few sections ...

Wheeler Peak Scenic Road open to 10,000'.

Just a heads up to bc skiers......road is open to 10,000......upper campground is not yet plowed, but there is trailhead parking.......spent five days last week in the Wheeler - Jeff Davis cirque and (on top of 2 1/2 feet of new snow which fell during the week's storms) the skiing was/is outstanding.....
Last week the road was only open to the scenic overlook; which didn't do me any good, still had to start at 7,500....access ...

Hiking/Climbing/Bouldering near Westward Look in Tucson

Apologies for a last minute lazy query; I'm sure if I had bought a guidebook and done more research I'd have all the info I need. I'm flying to Tucson this afternoon for a college roomates' 50th birthday party. My other ex-roomates and I will be staying at the Westward Look Resort in Tucson, which I gather is north of town on the southwest side of the Santa Catalina Mtns.. I just realized that two ...

Hole in the Mountain Peak - difficulty?

I am headed to Salt Lake City for July 4th, from Reno and considering hitting Hole-in-the-Mountain Peak on the way. It seems short, but steep. Anyone every climb it? Is it pretty safe? I know it is hard, but seems like pretty doable given the short distance. Just a slog up boulders?

Current conditions - Griffith & Charleston?

I expect to be coming thru the area between the 16th - 19th and need to know if I should bother packing the snowshoes? (much easier to leave behind... but the knees don't do so well with extended post-holing)

Is the route up to Griffith (and beyond) clear yet... (or soon to be..)... or is it still buried from a heavy winter?
