# of deaths on Longs Peak

by CSUMarmot » Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:43 pm

Heard about the guy who got struck by lightening and lived, but i'm just wondering how many people have currently died on Longs peak. The little plaque on the TH sign wasn't there last time I was in the area.

LoJ used to maintain a list of such incidents:

Perhaps he came under fire for the macabre topic - I don't know. Largely, I believe John is no longer maintaining these accident lists and, as owner and maintainer of a private site, that's his call. You may want to see if the NPS has stats on Longs.

In the end, we all need to learn from these incidents. It's an unfortuanate reality of our sport that people lose their lives in the mountains. However, all of us can find light in the midst of this darkness by learning from the stories of those who didn't make it home.
