How does the Feathered Friends' XXL sizing compare to the XL Western Mountaineering Ion sizing? Is the FF much larger or are the about the same size?

They are about the same. All of the FF clothing that I have had run smaller than others. The Rock & Ice XXL fits like my other XL parkas. It is still a big parka. Warmer than some apartments I have lived in (bigger too)
