Hilgard Pass and environs...

by thegib » Fri Sep 28, 2012 1:59 am

Hi SP'ers,

Secor says Hilgard pass is class 2 but the headwall of Second Recess looks nasty on the topo. Anyone able to confirm? Also, has anyone gone directly from Mist lake to Hilgard lake? Or, in the interest of going over Hilgard pass (N to S), does it make more sense to go up to Mist lake and then head SE, crossing a ridge before getting into position to ascend the pass, but at least dodging the headwall? Thanks!

I'm considering the same route, over Hilgard Pass and down the headwall, this summer. Have you or anyone made the descent and have some information to contribute?

Thank you.

I stayed on the west side of Volcanic Ridge during my early-ish season trip, so I'm still ignorant of Mist Lake. But let me recommend the confluence of creeks just below Hilgard lake. Highly gorgeous.
