Lee Vining Conditions

by Kurt Wedberg » Fri Dec 09, 2016 9:18 pm

I just took a trip up to Lee Vining Canyon to check out the ice. Overall the ice is still thin in spots but several lines are climbable. Here's some pix taken on December 7, 2016.

Listen to the Chief!

Are you the legendary Chief?

Kurt,

Thanks for sharing your pictures. It looks like the weather is warm this weekend. Any ideas of how ice conditions are holding up in June Lake?

I checked out June Lake yesterday. It was too warm. Water was running underneath the ice both at Horsetail Falls and the Roadside Ice. There was more ice earlier this week. A significant amount has melted since the beginning of the week. We need some colder temperatures before I'd recommend climbing there.

Looking up from underneath the Roadside Ice. Look carefully and you can see water dripping down.
