Insulated boots needed for Mt Adams in late Sept?

by cbuckeye » Thu Jun 29, 2017 8:07 pm

Hello, first time climber here. Mt Adams seemed like a good starter (even if grueling) as it was "non technical". Since we are just starting to gear up, we are trying to keep upfront costs down.

Are insulated boots needed for a Mt Adams climb in late Sept?

Thanks!

I assume you will be attempting the South Spur route? If so, I think you could get away wearing light weight summer mountaineering boots. I would personally climb in my Scarpa Charmoz, which are identical to La Sportiva Trangos. If I did not sell my Scarpa Mantas (mid weight, one piece leather, half shank, non insulated boot), I would climb in those.
