The gunmen probably jumped the rescuers for attempting to help a distressed hiker for free. Supposed to be charging for that... personal accountability.

I'm sure they were just out protecting their marijuana grove and needed to scare these people off to keep them from finding their plants.

LOL - was probably a Life Flight crew wanting in on the action so they could charge $10k for the flight.

Makes me long for the "good-ol'-days" when the criminals just stayed at the trailheads and burglarized your car while you were in the backcountry.

Stealing a rescuers radio seems like a bad idea anyway. Not too far fetched to think they are traceable.

Marijuana theory makes sense actually. But don't know that their actions help with the laying low and unnoticed part you might desire in such a situation.

No, but it probably does buy you enough time to harvest what you can and get out of dodge before the authorities come back, and instead they find only the weed instead of the weed and you. You steal the radios so the people about to walk into your stash can't get on the radios and say "no, we didn't find the hikers, but we sure did find a lot of pot".

Dude, everyone knows this is not the time to harvest. They barely started to bud if that!

FWIW: The marijuana grown today is pretty robust stuff that grows into a harvestable crop in about 90 day, so you could easily get four crops per year in the mild winter conditions around Piute Mountain. All its varieties are Its definitely GMOs, nothing 'natural' and/or 'organic' about it any more.

Yah, El Chapo. That doesn't occur when you grow outside. It is hard for the sun to be out for 12 hours in the winter. Even if there are mild winter conditions around the Piute mountains
