Please ID this mountain

by Nelson » Sun Oct 01, 2017 3:46 pm

Can someone ID this peak? On the Mont Blanc massif taken from Chamonix.
I have a few thoughts but am not completely matching it up to anything I'm easily finding online.

Thanks.

Hi Nelson,

The mountain is Mont Blanc du Tacul (13937 ft / 4248 m )

Thanks, appreciate it. The photos I found didn't line up as nice as the one you have shown so I wasn't certain.

While I've got you, how about one more!

I think the peak in the center is Aiguille de Bionnassay, but once again I'm sure.
The picture was taken from near Col du Tricot.

Nelson, I'd assum you wouldn't see Aiguille de Bionnassay from Col de Tricot. You have all the crest between Poiinte de Tricot and Aiguille de Tricot in between. Also the view appears to look level towards the mountain and the Col is some2000m lower than Aiguille de Bionnassay. If you'd said Col de Bionassay it might look better.

You could play around with this tool here

I always use it to identify the peaks on my photos (as long as I know where it's taken ;-))

Thanks Gangolf, I'll try to figure out more precisely where the photo was taken and I can play with your tool. My camera doesn't have GPS but perhaps I can get close by looking at the next and previous images.

I also have PeakFinder on my phone and that will let me select a viewpoint from the map. I'll try those tonight or tomorrow and see if I can come up with something. Will report back.
