How was the water situation Guyzo?? Is the winter snow helping the place out?

We headed out to Tahquitz. Almost too hot to climb there but we faired well enough. But seeing climbers heading off to climb Suicide???......now that's suicide!

Church Domes was fabulous. And there is nothing like capping off a day of steep rock climbing with a taste of rifle shooting.

Dave, Suicide can be really nice in hot weather. Plan to arrive at the Sunshine Face around 3PM and climb 'till dark. Nice 'n shady, even cool.

Dave, Hi. It was dry, the meadows are wet and producing skeeters. T and S is to hot now, IMHO. If you go to T make sure you climb early. If you go to S, sleep in, and climb late -till like 8pm. How is Courtwright? I am looking to get up there soon.

My prolonged weekend was fabulous although it had almost nothing to do with climbing. Etsuko and I spent two days wine tasting in Willamette Valley (OR), two more days in a wonderful company of Radek and Shirley (fellow SPers from Portland), beer drinking evening with a bunch of PNW SPers and finally four days on Orcas Island (San Juans off Washington Coast). It is hard to sit through work today...

Up for eating donuts?

HAAAA!! A nation full of them!! Thanks for the advice you two. Courtright is nice and the skeeters aren't near as bad as I thought they'd be. Let me know when you plan on heading up there. Would you be joining Jan, Rachael, Kris?

Oh, BTW......my mind is still on CRS but I suppose that trip will have ot wait till October when it gets a tad bit cooler around here (high temps in the foothills nearing 100).......

Found out I got giardia over the weekend.....too long to explain. Hope you're reading this Bob Burd.

Craig,

Glad you enoyed your time in Washington. Did you go over and check out Index while you where in Goldbar. It is up the road 10 minutes. Probably the best crack climbing, and definately the best aid climbing in the state.

On Sunday I took my daughter and a gaggle of her friends and relations to the local climbing gym for a birthday party. Some of those kids really burn up the wall! My oldest nephew is getting real serious about it, to the point where my sister is getting a little worried. Too bad, sis!

Misha,
it was our pleasure having you guys over!! Anytime you're heading up north, you know the address... :)

The SP beer drinking shindig was fun as always - turn out is getting better and better. The Portland get-together had WA (Martin) and CA (Etsuko and Misha) "delegates" helping out the numbers! Apologies for "jokes" and comments I might have inadvertently let loose while under the influence.

Wow, Im suprised this thread is still going. Just Returned from lassen Friday. Then, Sunday, Hiked up to all the 600ft and above highpoints of my town, or, the name of the topo map of my town. (same name) They all involved tresspassing but one. The highpoint was a wopping 742 feet. Do the math or your homework and you can figure out the town I live in.

Thanks to Guyzo's suggestion on another thread and Debbi's feedback, she and I headed to Holcomb Valley Pinnacles to do some sport climbing up in the Big Bear area. What a great time! Everything is so close together, ideal camping (no permits or BS like that!), beautiful scenery and steep high quality rock (kinda like J-Tree....a tad bit sharp but real positive. We warmed up on a soft 5.8 (lead it in a complete downpour, accompanied by thunder!). We came back less than a hour later, with the rock dried out and lead a few 10's. Good medicine for the body and soul. Heading back there real soon for more adventures!!

Although this wasn't on a weekend, Matt Shutz (SSCA prez) and I went to Shuteye Ridge for some fab Mammoth Pool area climbing. Found a route possibly put up by Sean Jones (not sure if it was 'Art Of Life; .10c). Amazing rock in an amazing setting.....you can clearly see the west side of Ritter-Banner and the Minarets! We even put up a new route.... but I'll leave that for Matt to discuss with anyone regarding the details. Check out the sweet rock!! The Sean Jones route we did, ascends just right of center (locate a faint natural line slanting right and upward toward open slab final pitch).....

Nice "bulge" Dave! tee hee

Oh, let's see what trouble did I get into this past weekend? Hmmm, well after a 6 mile forced march with 200 jarheads on Friday, I headed up 395 to attempt a day hike summit of Mt Dade. With little sleep and paranoia of bears breaking into my truck while I slumbered (I nearly hit a huge brown bear on Rock Creek Rd at midnight), I started the trek out just before sunrise. Nice hike to Treasure Lakes and then the BS starts! Scree - I've never seen so much! And Hourglass Couloir did NOT look inviting with so little snow in it, so I tried a chute that shot me down after pulling a few holds loose and invisioning myself tumbling several hundred feet past the base of Dade and into the bowl. Did the dang couloir, and WOW were those 300' of snow perfect! Final push stunk with more scree until I traversed onto rock and scrambled, 5th class in some areas, to the summit. Lovely view....of the storm coming in. Scribbled in summit log and high-tailed out. 8 hours out - 4 hours back, was I running? Nope, boot glissaded in snow and scree trying to outrun the storm but I was pelted with rain and hail the entire trip back to my truck. Oh let me not forget the F'ing mosquitos!!
Wonderful trip and I never saw another person past Long Lake. I did, however, hear someone yelling from BCS after I howled a blood curdling "DAMN!" when I reached the summit. Sometimes you just gotta solo ~
