"Accurate" German weather forecasts on line

Postby Big Benn » Sun Mar 05, 2006 9:09 am

Anyone know of a fairly accurate German on line weather forecast?

I use http://www.wetterspiegel.de but find they can be way out on temperatures.

I need one to get a view a few days ahead as I've got a bit hooked on winter hiking and would like to do a very short notice trip to Tegernsee later this month, but only if the weather is going to be suitable. Got loads of airmiles burning away in my pocket!

www.wetter.de. I offer no guarantees for their accuracy.

Deutscher Wetterdienst - they are accurate - being the offical weather agency in Germany - but they don't give detailed predictions. I guess they know that micro weather can't be accurately predicted anyway.

www.wetter.com has mostly accurate forecasts.
Additionally you may use the (german) page of the OEAV and their weather forecast is very accurate.

I usually use a combination of OEAV and wetter.com.

Thanks guys. I'll use those sites.

Not looking for accurate micro weather forecasts, but enough detail for a few days ahead to decide if it's worth dragging all my winter hiking kit from home to Bavaria for a few days!

Weather in Bavaria

Rumaging the net finds

http://ows.public.sembach.af.mil/

is from the U.S. Airforce and tells quite a bit including weather in Nurnberg and Garmisch.
There are quite a few frontal maps here and air flow at various levels in the atmosphere.

Wunderground is a pretty good all purpose weather site too.

http://www.wetter.de seems pretty good. I've been looking at it's short term forecasts and comparing them with the actual readings at Garmisch-Partenkirchen on http://alpspitze.de/wetterz/WETTER1.HTM

Try www.metvuw.com/forecast/

Although this is primarily a New Zealand site, James also provides 6 hourly rainfall forecasts for seven days (although up to 3 days is most accurate - I've never found these to be wrong) for Europe, Australia, the UK and Ireland and the World. The most useful website I've ever used for bushwalking and climbing (present websites excepted).
