Hi!

Does anybody know how much snow is still laying on Triglav or other high Slovenian peaks? We might head to Slovenia on Sunday should the weather be bad in Austria (the forecasts is getting better though).
Also - any ideas about harder (50-55°) ski descent that still might go?

On Kredarica, 2515m, there's still some 330cm of snow, on 1500m there's no more snow. So, in Julian Alps only a few couloirs would still be recommendable, but also for them you need to carry skis for some 1-2 hours. Perhaps Jalovec couloir would still be possible, people are reporting the snow there is covered with debris. Jug's couloir in Martuljek group or any other there would be possible, but you need almost 2h to get to 1500m of altitude. I didn't see reports for Vis group (Moses Scharte and Skrbina Prednje Spranje). But it's more or less over here. These days it's better to go somewhere in Hohe Tauern, if weather is ok, of course.

Can you perhaps tell me what the weather forecast for Triglav region is for Sunday? The forecast here has changed again rain all over the Austrian Alps main chain.
The forecasts I could find for Slovenia look similar, but I do not know how good they are. I guess a local Slovenjian one would be better!?

The weather forecast for Slovenia is not quite something which would be worth driving a long way down here - to do skiing, I mean.

Over this night and tomorrow it will be clear, and time to time more cloudy. Tomorrow in the afternoon in mountains short periods of rain can occur. Lowest morning temperatures 8 to 14, highest daily 22 to 27 degrees C (for Slovenia, not for mountains, of course).

In Sunday in the morning it will still be mostly sunny and warm, in the afternoon from the North rain and storms will start coming. Only on the coast region it will stay dry.

So, ja, early in the morning...

50 degrees? Yes, of course. Some very good skiers do the Slovenian ravine (Slovenska smer, Slovenska grapa =ravine) with skis. In summer it has steps of UIAA III, but in spring they are more or less under snow. Perhaps it would be possible still now. When you exit from the Triglav North face, you can continue on top. From the ex glacier there's a very steep slope (don't know how many degrees, about 50, I guess), which brings you on the summit ridge.

We ended up going to Marmolada in the Dolomites, as the weather looked good there and we had more information. Skied the north face of Marmolada.
Slovenjia is on my list for next year, after a good amount of reasearch!

I hope you'll post stuff on Marmolada page. The ski route is not yet there. I guess it's not the best option to ski down by the normal ascent, because of that short rocky passage. Does it go more towards the west? There's glacier all the time - but steep.

Hi Vid!

The route you are refering to is the NW flank. We skied the direct north face (450 m, 50°). In the picture below the north face is the left route, the NW flank the right one. The NW flank is a popular ski descent, and probably indeed better then the normal route, as you can ski from the summit to the bottom.
