SPers in Quito?

by Haliku » Mon Feb 26, 2007 7:18 pm

Ok I'm reusing an old post. Will be in Quito 1-3 July and am curious if any other SPers are in town then. Meet up and share beta? Cheers!

Are there any places in particular that tend to attract a larger share of climbers in either New or Old Town?

Or if there isn't, any reccomendations of where to stay that would be great.

Cheers!

I stayed at the Charles Darwin Hostel while in Quito in 2003 - Very nice folks, free breakfast and within walking distance of "new" downtown where there were lots of climbers/trekkers and internet cafe's. I wasn't in need of making any connections at the time but was told that the opportunities were endless in the area.

I stayed at the Hotel Sierra Nevada in Jan 07. Nice place. The guy who owns it is a climber and we saw many other climbers passing through when we were there. It was a very short, straight drive down the Avenue of the Amazones from the airport

Without a doubt you should go to Casa Helbling, holded by a Swiss-Ecuadorian woman (Jessie) and a German guy (Claus).
Excellent atmosphere, pictures of mountains on the walls, large rooms with wooden floors, and a kitchen to cook.

Just perfect ! We spent 10 nights there.
Highly recommendable

Their details : (located in the New Town)
