He MUST have taken the job - as we very crazy about the climbing possibilities here in Germany, the Autobahn, the city Heidelberg, the landscape...

I have not yet accepted the job. I am supposed to fly out to interview in mid-April.

I'll post to this thread when something happens.

Best of luck! I used to live not far away from there - will see if I can link you up with some old climbing pals in the area.

Here's the update, for those that care....
The Heidelberg job did not work out. I did not have the skills they were looking for.

I did land a job in Manchester, UK. I've been here for two weeks now and I'm just about settled into my apartment and new surroundings.
I've got a trip to Kinder Scout planned for this weekend, and I'm starting to piece together plans for hiking in the Lake District, Snowdonia, and other places that I can get to and back via train in a weekend.

Manchester is not a three hour drive from the Swiss Alps, but I do have a lot of hiking opportunities within 2 or so hours via train.

Charles,
I think in the past centuries there are a lot of people all over the world and within Europe itself who would have been very happy to be spared with the violent outcomes of European history.

But I agree provided Europe now piecemeal learns - as it appears - not to place anymore violent practise next to fine words and thoughts.

Heidelberg:

Beautiful old city centre with massive castle looming over it on the mountain. The river neckar is lined with big lawns where people sunbathe, play frisbee, soccer etc.
