Massif Central ski touring

Can anyone suggest some decent ski tours to be had in the Massif Central of France?

Overnight tours or simply mountains which offer good slopes to do laps with telemark skis.

Also wondering about the rules for camping- can I pitch a tent in these mountains without being bothered?

Hello,

This would be essentially for downhill skiing. But you seem to want to do a ski trip...
When would you go ?
Depending on when you might not have enough snow (low altitude), and snow-shoe would become a better choice. The usual trail goes through most of the volcanoes.

If you understand French, an excellent publisher for maps and books covering that region is : CHAMINA.

Hi,
Thanks for the info Myzantrope.
The sort of skiing I am interested in is very broad: rolling terrain and touring and even doing laps of slopes- I guess you would call it Randonee skiing. Just so long as it is not at a ski resort, and there are no chairlifts around. Hopefully there is a decent snow cover in January- otherwise I will scrap the plan to do the traverse of the whole chain.
(The site does also detail some off piste skiing areas in the Central Massif.)
My French is very bad- so I think I'll just get a map instead.

The area around Sancy is definitely the best (and the highest). However be aware that there can be chairlifts depending on the side you choose to ski on. On the map there are pointed as black line called "Téléphérique" and "Téléski".
