Radios to use on Ama Dablam / in the Khumbu region

Postby dmiki » Thu Dec 27, 2007 12:49 pm

We are planning on getting some handheld radios for communication within the team and with base camp. We are wondering what frequency, range and power radios to get that would be useful for general communication, and in case of any emergency or rescue operation in Nepal. Is there any specific radio frequency or frequency band that is used and/or monitored for this purpose? Are there any locations within the Khumbu that would be monitoring radio traffic (run by the NMA or the military or any other party?) Any advice in this matter would be appreciated. Mobile phones?

Thank you
Michael

Keep your radios out of sight of the Nepalese authorities (LO's etc.) or you will be charged a fee for having them.
