Hi

I am going to Zermatt (Breithorn, Castor/Pollux and Dom) and Canazei (Marmolada and some other via ferrate routes) in the second half of July. Can anybody recommend good campgrounds near these two locations? We would prefer climber campgrounds like the "Les Arolles" one in Chamonix and avoid the family packed campgrounds.

In Zermatt would you recommend staying in Zermatt itself or is it better to stay further down the valley and take the train up?

If you stay in Zermatt it will be more expensive than the rest of the valley. So if you don't want to spend too much money it would be better to stay in Täsch or Randa. If you don't mind spending a bit more money than Zermatt is much nicer than Täsch or Randa (with off course the view on the Matterhorn ).

I stayed at the campground in Tasch - nice camping spots and location in the valley.

I walked by the campground in Zermatt - the actual location is right next to the train tracks - not as nice but you get to be in Zermatt.

Really depends how many days you're planning on spending in Zermatt. It could end up being more expensive if you have to take the train in for multiple days from Tasch, not sure.

For Canazei I can recommend Camping Vidor at Pozza die Fassa. Good starting point for Marmolada, Sellajoch, Passo di Pordoi. The camp site is clean and cosy with a view to Catinaccio. It has its own climbing rock right on the campsite.

I second that, it's a really nice place. There is a daily taxi service to Zermatt, quick and not expensive. Owner speaks a zillion languages fluently ..

The Vidor and Attermenzen camp sites looks fine. Possa is just in the centre of the VF routes we plan on doing and Randa is the starting point for Dom. Thanks for the advises.
