Katahdin - Winter

by bc44caesar » Mon Dec 01, 2008 2:31 am

Anybody interested in getting a group together to do some climbs on Katahdin this winter? I was thinking a week would do the trick. Enough time to dodge some bad weather and get a few climbs in. Cilley-Barber, Pamola IV, Chauvin-Cole on the technical end, maybe a ski descent, or just some good ole' winter trudging? :D

I'm game, but I think I would be kind of a problem. I have no car or way of getting to Baxter and I'd need to borrow/rent crampons, ice axes, rope and some other stuff (stupid BOC won't let us sign out the good toys). If I can get around those obstacles, I'd be stoked to go to Katahdin.

December won't work for me. For starters, I'd be completely unprepared. Also, my plane tickets are already booked for winter break and I'll be in Chicago during that time. What about second/third week of March?

Sign me up! I'd be interested in a potential March run up Katahdin. I haven't had a chance on this one yet and it's something I was already scoping out for late winter 2009.

Hey, thanks for the PMs and replies. I'm looking to do a week in January - main goal is the Cilley-Barber, followed by other technical ice climbs, although I would like to ski down once if possible. I might have a team for the ice climbing routes together, but I'm down with a larger group sharing the cabin if there is more interest. Don't forget to check out the restrictions on the Baxter SP website, they are a bit onerous.

If people want to use this thread to plan a March trip too, that's cool too!

If I can borrow some gear and get a ride out of Brunswick, I'm in for March.

Anyone up for Katahdin in Feb or Mar 2010? Something technicalish.
