Orizaba partners 12/05

by marnold92701 » Fri Jul 29, 2005 6:31 am

anybody up for Orizaba either the week before Christmas or the week after Christmas? Othewise, I'll be soloing, and I'd rather not. I'm in Santa Ana, CA.

Bill and I are assembling a team for that very time period. We are not sure if we are going the week before or after Christmas yet, but it will be one or the other. We have a few other guys that may join us. We were there in March but hit bad weather. Let's stay in touch. I'll keep you posted with our plans.

Christmas, i.e. the last half of Dec., the mountain is very crowded since a lot of people are off work and out of school. The hut is crowded with 25+ people in it. Cheers!

Yes, we are anticipating crowds there. I think we will avoid the hut altogether and just sleep in our tents where it is easier to sleep.

Hi Alpinist and thanks for the reply. Actually, I wasn't even considering the hut - something a little higher and less hectic, be it wherever, along the trail before snow/ice. Keep me posted on your plans amigo! M.

There are quite a few places to camp between the hut and the glacier. I snapped some shots last time I was there; <A HREF=http://www.summitpost.org/mountains/photo_link.pl/p/photo_id__144131__object_id__16784__type__user__mountain_id____route_id____user_id____order_by____limit__">Camp 1, Camp 2, Camp 3. I'm sure we'll find a spot despite the crowds.

Bill and I have set our plans. We're going the week before Christmas. We're planning to travel on Saturday Dec 17th, spend the night at Senior` Reyes' house, and then fly back home on Saturday Dec 24th. We need to book space with him before he fills up. Will do that this week.

Good to see some interest forming. We might have a nice group of SPers on the mountain.

...still waiting on a reply from Senior Reyes, but I'm 100% all in. Bill and Alp, did they say they were booked full or anything when you spoke with them? or did you just e-mail them and they confirmed? Just curious, there are other places to stay, and I'll walk from Puebla if I have to! I am waiting on e-mail from Senior Reyes.

Marnold,

Glad you are able to join us. I haven't spoken to the Reyes yet, but if they are booked, there are many other options in Tlach. Among them are Hotel Gerar and the Cancholas. See the Orizaba page.

Cheers
Bill

Bill... I'm working on getting a ride from the Puebla airport directly to the hut, or somewhere within reasonable walking distance to the hut. Whenever I get some kind of positive sounding confirmation, I'll let you know... but I'm willing to play it all by ear if need be... cheers to you too, Mike.
