food on orizaba

by crzyjt » Fri Oct 14, 2005 9:04 am

just a quick question about food on the climb. is it easy to get food in tlachichuca (such as beans n rice, other dried food, etc.) or is it best to stock up in mex. city. also, is it possible to take food into mexico on the flight? it would be easiest to just take camping food in the gear bag, but i don't know if customs is going to take it. i figure its worth a shot and just give it up if customs won't let us keep it.

There are a couple of grocery stores in Tlachachuca so you could probably find some things depending on how picky of an eater you are. You can for sure bring in food from the US into Mexico. Last year, we brought a an entire suit case full of food. We are doing the same thing this year as well.

Good luck

Hey crzjt,

When are you heading down to do Orizaba? I'll be down there from 12/17 to the 26th... If you're going to be there at the same time, we should meet up at some point. As you can see, I'm in Boulder as well, so drop me a line if you'd like... Wouldn't mind grabbing a beer and talking about the climb...

looks like we'll be up there about the same time. i'm flying out the night of the 17th from denver, arriving at 5am on the 18th in mexico city, travelling to tlachichuca that day. we're only going to spend 3 days or so on the mountain (hopefully the weather works out). probly see you out there i would guess.

we're flying back the day before thanksgiving, so orizaba is it for us. we're hoping to have an extra day to go see the temple of the sun and moon if possible.

got ya. bill and i are actually going in December, not November, so we obviously won't be seeing you there. It would be great to get together in Boulder when you get back, so we can profit from your experience. Have a great time and good luck!
