Do You Climb Naked?

by Mark Doiron » Sun Sep 06, 2009 12:42 pm

Not a serious question, of course (if you do, please keep it to yourself!). But, there's at least one sculptor who thought some rock climbers do. I guess it's artistic license ...

I do know a guy who always tries to "peak bag" naked.

Hmmm. I didn't see anything about naked peakbagging. Only that his ex-wife is a smokin' hot stripper who is half his age.

Anyway, enough people climb/hike naked that there is really nothing shocking about it. Didn't really think that sculpture was anything too impressive. Probably just the fact that it's in the middle of town that makes it "newsworthy."

He used to have more about it; could be that the new wife gives him new motivation to protect the jewels. There is typically a note on the rupees he leaves in registers:

Colin Fletcher used to advocate hiking naked. I wanted to invite him to the Adirondacks during black fly season.

I don't usually climb naked but getting naked on the summit is always an option.

As long as too many people aren't around, that is.

Nuts form a large part of a pinyon jay's diet.

Dick Williams makes the first nude ascent of Shockley's Ceiling, in 1964.
His buddies took off with his clothes so his descent was also a first.

I've done a few naked walks in desert washes of the Mojave and Mexico, but I can't imagine naked peakbagging. Perhaps it's because I'm not confident in my scrambling skills to keep from inadvertently scraping my knees or worse.
