It seems to me that what is meant is: Alone or Partnered.
IMHO, "Solo" is used as a definition in technical climbing (roped solo, unroped solo).
Of course, in common language solo means alone, like climbing means ascending.
F.i., one wouldn´t either say solo bouldering.
