So, what do you expect? Does your buddy go get help? Do you whip out your sat phone and call for the next available helicopter? Did you go solo, and crawl out?
It would be interesting to hear what you all think is going to happen next, and how long it's going to take. Rescue response varies around the world, so give you story the local perspective.
Here is what I thought would happen when I got hurt in the back country. I'd deal with it and try to get myself out.
How'd I do?
Broken ankle (thought it was sprained) at Lamark Col, walked out.
Shattered ankle falling off Arrowhead Arete, walked out
Broken collar bone while bouldering, walked out
Fell out of tree, broke wrist, got up, walked to house (hehe)
I don't like to Cry Uncle. I think the urge NOT to call Uncle is a sourse of strength. I came close coming down from Arrowhead and my partner Beth talked me out of it. She passed me some of her strength (and some herbal reinforcements) and we soldiered on.
Compound fractures are a different story of course....
